Breaking capacity — what the dual rating means for your BOM
The 5SY6216-6 carries two breaking capacity ratings because it is certified under both the wiring-rule standard (EN 60898-1: 6 kA) and the industrial standard (IEC 60947-2: 15 kA). The 6 kA figure governs residential or light commercial panels; the 15 kA figure applies when the breaker is specified per IEC 60947-2 in an industrial switchboard. The UL 1077 supplementary-protector rating is 5 kA at AC. For a panel builder working to IEC 61439, the 15 kA rating is the one that drives selectivity and SCCR coordination upstream.
