Siemens 5SY6230-7 SENTRON — C-curve 2-pole MCB for panel protection
The Siemens 5SY6230-7 is a 2-pole miniature circuit breaker from the SENTRON series, with a C-curve tripping characteristic. It protects branch circuits against overload and short-circuit in commercial and industrial panels. The C-curve (5–10× In) is the standard choice for inductive or moderate inrush loads — motor starters, contactor coils, small transformers — where a B-curve would nuisance-trip on startup and a D-curve would delay too long for conductor protection. Rated 400 VAC at 50/60 Hz, it carries dual breaking capacities: 6 kA per IEC/EN 60898-1 for residential/commercial application, and 15 kA per IEC 60947-2 for industrial duty where higher fault current is expected. The 15 kA rating under 60947-2 is the one that governs fit in most panelboards — it means this breaker can safely interrupt a 15 kA prospective fault without welding contacts or cascading failure upstream. At 2 modular-width units (36 mm wide), it snaps onto standard DIN rail via the quick-assembly system and mounts in any orientation. Depth is 76 mm; installation depth is 70 mm, so it fits flush in shallow enclosures. The IP20 rating applies with conductors connected — fine for enclosed panels, not for wet or dust-exposed locations.
