Integrator's note on the 5SY6508-7CC
Breaking capacity is 6 kA per EN 60898, and 5 kA per UL 1077 and CSA C22.2 No.235 — so it handles standard branch-circuit fault levels in both IEC and North American panels. Temperature derating is baked in: at 40 °C ambient the breaker carries 7.35 A, at 50 °C it's 6.63 A, and at 55 °C it drops to 6.25 A. If the panel runs hot — say inside a non-ventilated enclosure near drives — size the load against the 55 °C figure, not the 8 A nameplate.
DIN-rail fit and panel integration
Width is 36 mm (2 modular units), depth 76 mm, height 90 mm, with an installation depth of 70 mm behind the panel face. Mounting position is any, so vertical or horizontal DIN-rail orientation works. Sealable, halogen-free, and silicon-free construction makes it suitable for food processing, pharmaceutical, or semiconductor fab panels where outgassing or contamination is a concern.
Energy limitation class 3 means the breaker limits let-through energy enough to protect downstream wiring under short-circuit conditions — relevant for coordination with downstream loads. Vibration resistance per IEC 60068-2-6 covers ±1 mm at 5–25 Hz and 50 m/s² at 25–150 Hz, so it holds up on machinery with moderate vibration profiles like conveyors or compressors. The C-curve sits between B (for resistive/lighting) and D (for high-inrush transformers/welding). For a typical 8 A motor branch or a bank of contactors, C is the right balance — it won't trip on the coil inrush but clears fast on a hard fault.
