Siemens 5SY6514-7 — SENTRON 2-pole MCB, C-curve, dual breaking capacity
The Siemens 5SY6514-7 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker in a 2-pole (1P+N) configuration with a C tripping characteristic. It carries dual breaking capacities: 6 kA under IEC/EN 60898-1 for residential/commercial branch circuits, and 30 kA under IEC 60947-2 for industrial panel duty — the 60947-2 rating is the one that governs its use in a factory distribution board where fault currents can exceed 10 kA. The C-curve (5–10× In) is the standard choice for motor-starter and lighting circuits that see moderate inrush, so it avoids nuisance tripping on transformer or capacitor loads while still clearing fast enough for cable protection.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 36 mm width (2 modular units) and 76 mm depth fit standard DIN-rail enclosures; the quick assembly system means it snaps onto the rail without tools. Rated for any mounting position, so it works in vertical busway or horizontal sub-panels. The IP20 rating with connected conductors is typical for enclosed panels — no special sealing needed. Pollution degree 3 means it's rated for conductive environments inside an industrial cabinet, not a clean room. The neutral conductor is switched, which matters for IT or corner-grounded delta systems where you need to isolate both poles. The sealable design allows a lockout tagout (LOTO) staple through the toggle — a common plant-safety requirement. Vibration resistance per IEC 60068-2-6 covers ±1 mm at 5–25 Hz and 50 m/s² at 25–150 Hz, so it holds up on conveyor drives or compressor skids.
Panel integration and compliance
Mounts on standard 35 mm DIN rail via the quick assembly system. The combined top and bottom terminals accept both busbar and wire — no need for separate feed-through lugs. Supplementary devices (undervoltage release, shunt trip, auxiliary contacts) can be snapped onto the right side. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction meets clean-room and rail-vehicle material restrictions. Approvals cover IEC/EN 60898-1 (household-type MCB), IEC/EN 60947-2 (industrial MCB), UL 1077 (supplementary protector), and CSA C22.2 No. 235. The 5 kA UL 1077 rating is lower than the IEC 60947-2 figure — that's normal for UL supplementary protectors, which don't carry the same SCCR as a full UL 489 breaker. For a UL 508A panel, verify the SCCR coordination with the upstream feeder breaker.
