The D curve means it's designed for loads with high inrush currents — think motor starters, transformers, or solenoid banks — where the short-term surge can hit 10–20× the rated current without nuisance tripping. At 230 V AC, the 1.6 A rating governs the continuous load; the breaker clears faults at 6 kA per EN 60898 for standard domestic/commercial duty, and up to 30 kA per IEC 60947-2 for industrial panels where fault current is higher. That dual rating is the key: if your panel SCCR is above 6 kA, the 30 kA IEC rating keeps you coordinated without upsizing to a larger frame.
