Siemens 5SY6606-7 — 4-pole C-curve MCB for panel builders
The Siemens 5SY6606-7 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker with a 4-pole (3P+N) design, C-curve trip characteristic, and a 6 A rated current at 35 °C. The DC rating of 15 kA per IEC 60947-2 covers DC distribution in telecom or battery-backed circuits. This is a current-production part — no lifecycle concerns for new builds or BOM freezes. The 4-module-width (72 mm) footprint snaps onto standard DIN rail; the quick-assembly system and combined top/bottom terminals speed up panel wiring.
The 6 A rating at 35 °C derates to 5.71 A at 40 °C and 5.25 A at 55 °C, so if the panel ambient runs hot, you may need to step up one frame size or ensure adequate ventilation around the breaker. The 30 kA breaking capacity under IEC 60947-2 gives headroom for high-fault industrial panels — it safely interrupts a 30 kA prospective short-circuit current without cascading upstream. The 6 kA EN 60898 rating is the more conservative residential/commercial limit; the higher IEC rating is the one to use for industrial coordination studies. The neutral conductor is switched (3P+N), which means the neutral pole opens and closes with the phases. This is required in some regional wiring codes and for isolating the neutral in TT or IT earthing systems. The sealable design allows the panel builder to lock the toggle position after commissioning — useful for tamper-proofing in public-access enclosures.
The temperature range of -40 to 75 °C covers cold storage and hot machinery compartments, but the derating curve above 35 °C is the real constraint for continuous load.
