What the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens 5SY7213-8 is a 2-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker with a D tripping characteristic, rated 13 A at AC. The D-curve means it tolerates inrush currents 10–20 times the rated current before tripping magnetically — sized for motor, transformer, or welding-equipment loads where the start-up surge would nuisance-trip a B or C curve. The 13 A rating is at 35 °C ambient; at 40 °C it derates to 12.38 A, at 50 °C to 11.73 A, and at 60 °C to 11.02 A, so the actual continuous current the breaker can carry depends on your enclosure temperature. Breaking capacity is 15 kA per EN 60898 and 25 kA per IEC 60947-2. The higher IEC figure applies when the breaker is used in industrial distribution per IEC 60947-2; the EN figure governs residential/commercial installations. Overvoltage category III and pollution degree 3 suit it for fixed-installation panels downstream of the main distribution board. The 2-pole (2P) configuration switches both phase and neutral on a single-phase circuit, or two phases on a three-phase system. Mounting position is any, and the quick assembly system snaps onto standard DIN rail — 2 modular width units (36 mm wide) for panel fill planning.
Deployment context
Rated for mechanical engineering and industrial environments. The IP20 rating (with connected conductors) means it is protected against finger contact but not against moisture — install inside a sealed enclosure in washdown or outdoor locations. The sealable feature allows the installer to lock the toggle in the off position for lockout/tagout compliance. Combined terminals at top and bottom accept both cable and busbar connections, simplifying panel wiring. Installation depth is 70 mm, overall depth 76 mm — factor that into gland-plate clearance and door swing.
