Siemens 5SY7215-8 — SENTRON 2-pole D-curve MCB, 1.6 A
It carries UL 1077 recognition as a supplementary protector, so it fits North American control panels as well as IEC-spec installations.
The D-curve (10–20× In magnetic trip) is the key selection parameter here. At 1.6 A, the magnetic trip point sits between 16 A and 32 A, which clears fast on a hard short but ignores the brief inrush of a small motor or a control transformer primary. That makes this breaker a common choice for individual motor branch circuits or for feeding a downstream contactor coil bus where a B- or C-curve would trip on energization. Temperature derating is published: at 40 °C ambient the breaker carries 1.52 A, at 50 °C it drops to 1.44 A, and at 60 °C it is 1.36 A. It can be installed in any position and accepts supply from either end.
Approvals and documentation
The breaker is certified to IEC/EN 60898-1 (for household and similar installations) and IEC/EN 60947-2 (for industrial circuit-breakers), plus UL 1077 as a supplementary protector. Sealable terminals allow the installer to lock the cover after commissioning — a common requirement for energy-metering panels or tamper-proof installations.
