What it is and what the ratings mean
The Siemens 5SY7315-7 is a 3-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) rated at 1.6 A with a C tripping characteristic. That C-curve means it holds steady through inrush up to 5–10× rated current and trips magnetically beyond that — the right choice for moderate motor starts, transformer inrush, or mixed resistive-inductive loads in a control panel. The 1.6 A rating is at 35 °C ambient; derate it to 1.54 A at 40 °C, 1.5 A at 45 °C, and so on down to 1.4 A at 60 °C, so if your panel runs hot, size up accordingly. Breaking capacity is 15 kA per EN 60898 and 50 kA per IEC 60947-2 — that second figure is the one that matters for industrial panel coordination. A 50 kA SCCR at 400 V means this MCB can safely interrupt a fault up to that level without the upstream device having to clear it. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III confirm it belongs in the main sub-distribution, not just a clean-room final circuit.
Panel fit and integration
Width is 54 mm, which is 3 modular units (MW) on a standard DIN rail. Depth 76 mm, installation depth 70 mm — leaves a little breathing room in a shallow enclosure. Mounting position any, so you can orient it vertically or horizontally in a tight gland plate layout. IP20 with connected conductors means it's protected against finger contact but not washdown; keep it inside the panel, not on the machine frame. Combined terminal top and bottom — that's a time-saver for the wireman: one screw captures both the incoming busbar and the outgoing conductor. Fastening method is the quick-assembly system (snap-on DIN rail), and it's sealable (padlockable handle) for lockout/tagout compliance. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction matters if the panel serves a clean room or semiconductor tool.
