The 15 kA breaking capacity per IEC 60898-1 is the standard residential/commercial rating; the 25 kA per IEC 60947-2 is the industrial rating that governs when this breaker is applied in an industrial panel with higher available fault current. At DC, it interrupts 15 kA at 60 V (max 72 V operating), so it also handles DC distribution in control cabinets or solar combiner boxes. The UL 1077 rating of 5 kA confirms its acceptance as a supplementary protector in North American panels — not a branch-circuit primary, but a recognized component for internal equipment protection. This is a current-production part (lifecycle stage: current), so it is sourced through the standard Siemens distribution channel.
Selectivity and coordination
The 5SY7316-7 carries dual-standard breaking capacities: 15 kA under IEC 60898-1 (the household standard) and 25 kA under IEC 60947-2 (the industrial standard). The C-curve's magnetic trip threshold (5–10× In) also aids selectivity: a downstream B-curve breaker will trip first on a low-level fault, while this holds for the motor start.
Rated for ambient temperatures from -40 °C to +75 °C, with humidity derating: max 95% RH at 55 °C, tapering to 35% at 75 °C.
Panel integration
Snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail via the quick-assembly system — no tools needed for mounting or removal. 3 MW units wide (54 mm), 70 mm installation depth behind the panel surface, 76 mm overall depth including the front. No neutral conductor switching — this is a 3-pole breaker for 3-phase loads only; the neutral must be handled separately if required.
