What this MCB covers
The Siemens 5SY7515-7 is a 2-pole (1P+N) miniature circuit breaker from the SENTRON family, rated at 1.6 A with a C tripping characteristic. It snaps onto a DIN rail and fits a 36 mm wide footprint — two modular width units — so it slots into standard distribution boards or industrial control panels without extra adaptors. The C-curve means it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current, which handles moderate inrush from small motor loads, lighting ballasts, or transformer primaries without nuisance tripping. At 1.6 A that puts the magnetic trip threshold between 8 A and 16 A — a good fit for protecting a single fractional-horsepower motor or a control transformer secondary. Breaking capacity is 15 kA per EN 60898 and 50 kA per IEC 60947-2. The higher IEC figure matters when the breaker sits downstream of a high-fault transformer or in an industrial panel where the prospective short-circuit current can exceed 15 kA. The 50 kA rating gives you headroom without upsizing to a larger frame.
Mounting and panel fit
Mounts in any position on a 35 mm DIN rail. The 36 mm width (2 MW) and 70 mm installation depth leave room for wiring gutters and adjacent devices. Combined terminals top and bottom accept the same conductor range — no need to swap terminal types between line and load sides. IP20 with connected conductors — fine for enclosed distribution boards; not rated for washdown or outdoor exposure without a secondary enclosure. The sealable option lets you lock the toggle position after commissioning to prevent unauthorized switching.
Thermal derating and environment
Rated 1.6 A at 35 °C ambient; derates to 1.36 A at 60 °C. If the panel runs hot — near a drive bank or transformer — size the upstream protection for the derated value, not the nameplate. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III suit industrial environments where conductive dust or transient surges are present. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction matters if the panel is in a clean room or near sensitive optics — outgassing won't corrode contacts or fog lenses. Storage range from -40 °C to 75 °C covers cold warehouses and hot shipping containers.
