What this 1 A C-curve 4-pole MCB does for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 5SY7601-7 is a 1 A miniature circuit breaker with a C tripping characteristic, 4 poles configured as 3P+N, and a rated voltage of 400 V AC. Rated current of 1 A means it protects a small load — think a control transformer primary, a signal supply, or a single motor starter coil circuit — not a main feeder. At 1 A, that means the magnetic trip fires between 5 A and 10 A — fast enough to clear a hard short, slow enough to ride through the energisation spike of a 50 VA control transformer. If your load is purely resistive with no inrush, a B-curve would trip faster; if it's a motor with a high locked-rotor current, you'd want a D-curve. For the typical mix of control gear and small inductive loads, C is the safe default. Any mounting position, any supply cord orientation, so you can feed it from top or bottom without derating the breaking capacity. IP20 with conductors connected means it's for inside an enclosure, not for wet or dusty locations.
Breaking capacity: which number to use
This 5SY7601-7 carries two breaking-capacity ratings because it is certified under two standards. Per EN 60898 (the household and similar installations standard) it is rated 15 kA. The 50 kA figure also applies for DC circuits per the same standard, at 15 kA. For UL 1077 / CSA C22.2 No. 235 (supplemental protection in North American panels) it is rated 5 kA. Use the rating that matches the standard your panel is designed to. In a European industrial panel specified to IEC 61439, the 50 kA IEC 60947-2 value is the one you put on the short-circuit withstand declaration.
Environmental and installation limits
Ambient temperature range from -40 °C to 75 °C, with a derating curve above 55 °C: max 95 % humidity at 55 °C, dropping to 55 % at 70 °C and 35 % at 75 °C. That covers most heated and unheated enclosures, including outdoor cabinets in cold climates. Vibration resistance per IEC 60068-2-6: ±1 mm at 5 to 25 Hz, 50 m/s² at 25 to 150 Hz. That is standard for fixed industrial installation; if the breaker is mounted on a machine that vibrates continuously (like a crusher or a large compressor), you should still check the vibration profile against the curve. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction. If your panel specification requires low-smoke, zero-halogen materials (for example in railway, marine, or underground applications), this part qualifies. Sealable — you can lock the toggle in the off position with a padlock for lockout/tagout procedures.
