The Siemens 5SY8116-7 is a 1-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker with a C-curve trip characteristic, rated 16 A at AC and delivering a 30 kA breaking capacity per IEC 60947-2 — that's the fault-clearing rating that governs whether this MCB holds up under a short-circuit without upstream damage. On DC circuits it's rated 15 kA at up to 72 V, so it also covers control-power and signal-level DC branches in the same panel. With IP20 protection (with connected conductors) and pollution degree 3, it's suited for industrial control panels, not sealed outdoor enclosures.
Temperature derating — the real-world current
At 45 °C ambient the 16 A rating holds. At 50 °C it derates to 15.5 A, and at 55 °C to 14.99 A. The surrounding temperature influence curve also caps humidity: 95% up to 55 °C, 55% up to 70 °C, and 35% up to 75 °C. That means in a tightly packed panel with elevated internal temps, you must account for the reduced continuous current — the nameplate 16 A is only valid below 45 °C.
The MCB ships as a single unit with combined terminals top and bottom — no separate accessory pack needed for basic installation. The sealable design (padlockable toggle) and halogen-free / silicon-free construction are built in, so the kit is complete for a standard panel fit. No holes in the box.
