What this MCB is and where it fits
The Siemens SENTRON 5SY8132-8 is a 1-pole miniature circuit breaker with a D tripping characteristic, rated 32 A at 440 V AC. It's designed for mechanical engineering and industrial panel applications where high inrush currents — from motor starters, transformers, or power supplies — would nuisance-trip a B or C curve. The D curve means the magnetic trip threshold sits at 10 to 20 times rated current, so it holds through the startup surge and clears a hard fault fast. Breaking capacity is 30 kA per IEC 60947-2, which covers most industrial distribution boards up to the service entrance. For DC circuits it's rated 15 kA per the same standard, and under UL 1077 / CSA C22.2 No. 235 it carries 5 kA — useful if the panel also needs a North American listing. The 18 mm width (one modular unit) snaps onto a DIN rail and accepts any mounting position, so it slots into existing SENTRON sub-distribution boards without re-spacing.
Mounting and environment
Snap-on mounting to DIN rail, one modular width (18 mm). The housing is halogen-free and silicon-free, which matters for panels in clean-room or food-processing areas where outgassing contaminates sensitive electronics. Ambient operating range is -40 °C to 75 °C, with derated current above 45 °C: 32 A at 45 °C, 31.01 A at 50 °C, 29.98 A at 55 °C. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III mean it's rated for the industrial environment inside a standard enclosure — no special sealing needed. IP20 with conductors connected, so the busbar and wiring terminals are protected against finger contact but not washdown.
