It's built to protect motor and transformer circuits where inrush currents are high — the D-curve holds through the start-up spike and trips on sustained overload.
D-curve and breaking capacity
D-curve means magnetic trip between 10x and 20x In — that's 130 A to 260 A instantaneous. It's sized for motor starters, small transformers, and welding equipment that draw a heavy inrush without being a fault. For UL 1077 installations (supplementary protection), the interrupting rating is 5 kA.
