Integrator note: breaking capacity and coordination
The Siemens 5SY8302-7 is a 3-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker with a C-tripping characteristic, rated to interrupt 70 kA at 400 V AC per IEC 60947-2 — that is the fault current it can clear without welding its contacts or rupturing the case, so it holds its place in a high-fault panel without needing an upstream current-limiting fuse. At 60 V DC it still handles 15 kA, which covers most industrial DC control bus faults. The C-curve (5–10× In magnetic trip) suits motor and transformer inrush where a B-curve would nuisance-trip; for purely resistive loads a B-curve might be a better fit, but the C is the standard choice for mixed general-purpose circuits in mechanical engineering and industry environments.
Mounting and panel fit
Occupies 3 modular width units (54 mm) on a DIN rail — quick-assembly system, snaps on without tools. Depth is 76 mm (70 mm installation depth behind the panel), so it fits standard distribution boards. Mounting position any; combined top and bottom terminals accept supply from either end. IP20 with connected conductors — fine inside a closed panel, not for wet locations.
Lifecycle and compliance
Current production — no end-of-life notice. The breaker carries IEC/EN 60947-2 and UL1077 approvals, so it is accepted across European and North American installations.
