It's a magnetic-only trip unit — no thermal bimetal, so it's built for applications where short-circuit protection is the priority and overloads are handled upstream or by the load itself.
Rated 10 A continuous, it'll hold a 4 kW motor on 400 V three-phase without tripping on start. The 40 kA IEC 60947-2 rating is the headline number for industrial panels; the UL 1077 listing at 5 kA covers North American branch circuits. Pollution degree 3 (industrial environment) and overvoltage category III (distribution level) mean it's rated for the dirt and spikes you see in a real panel.
Mounts in any position. IP20 with connected conductors is standard for enclosed panels; keep the front cover on.
The 5SY series is a broad SENTRON family; this variant is the magnetic-only D10 3-pole. No direct replacement needed — it's the active part.
