What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5TT5860-0 is an Insta contactor — a compact, panel-mount switching device with two normally-open (NO) contacts, rated for 32 A AC operational current and a 230 V AC coil. It occupies a single modular width (18 mm) on the DIN rail, making it a space-efficient choice for controlling resistive or moderate inductive loads in distribution boards and sub-panels. The 32 A AC rating means it can switch motor loads, lighting banks, or heating elements up to that current in AC circuits — the so-what for a sourcing buyer is that this contactor fits a 32 A branch circuit without needing an oversized frame. The 2 NO configuration (zero NC contacts) is a straight-forward make-only switch; if your application requires a break contact, this isn't the variant.
Panel integration and thermal management
At 18 mm wide (1 MW), 90 mm tall, and 71 mm deep, the 5TT5860-0 snaps onto a standard DIN rail inside an enclosure. The IP20 rating means it's protected against solid objects larger than 12 mm (fingers, tools) but not against moisture — keep it inside a sealed cabinet, not in a washdown zone. The installation note is critical: provision must be made for spacers to ensure heat dissipation. At 2.5 W power loss per pole in hot operating state, the contactor generates measurable heat when carrying full current. In a densely packed DIN-rail row, adjacent devices can thermally throttle each other. Leave a gap or use the manufacturer's recommended spacer between units to keep the contactor within its rated temperature rise.
