Programming and memory
Supports LAD, FBD, and STL, so code from earlier S7-200 projects can be reused without translation. 256 B of memory (DB1) backed by integral EEPROM and a capacitor for 100 h retention at 40 °C; optional battery module extends retention to 200 days. Program processing runs free-cycle (OB1), interrupt-controlled, or time-controlled from 1 ms to 255 ms. Timers span 1 ms through 54 min, with six 32-bit high-speed counters (30 kHz each) usable as up/down or incremental encoder inputs.
Communication and interface
Integrated RS-485 port runs MPI (up to 187.5 kbit/s) and PPI (up to 187.5 kbit/s); MPI supports data exchange with MPI masters while PPI handles HMI functions and CPU/CPU communication. Unshielded cable max 150 m, shielded 500 m.
