CPU for extreme environments – immediate fit check
The 6AG1215-1AG40-2XB0: This is a Siemens SIPLUS S7-1200 CPU 1215C — the wide-temperature version of the standard 1215C, rated for -40 to 70 °C ambient. It runs on 24 V DC with a tolerance down to L+ minus 4 V, meaning it stays online even when the line supply sags. Onboard memory holds 4 Mbyte for code and tags, with a bit memory address area of 8 kbyte. If your BOM calls for a PLC that must survive a hot factory roof or a chilled warehouse during commissioning stops, this is the variant to quote.
PROFINET, protocols, and fieldbus pick
The CPU natively speaks PROFINET with autocrossing and shared-device capability. MODBUS TCP and UDP are built in. For PROFIBUS you need the CM 1243-5 module. AS-Interface is supported via an external master. PROFIsafe is not available on this CPU variant — you must use a failsafe CPU if you need SIL-rated safety over PROFINET.
Programming languages and debugging
You can program this CPU in FBD, LAD, and SCL. Forcing of outputs is supported. The HMI or SCADA can force inputs/outputs, memory bits, DBs, distributed I/O, timers, and counters via the variable map. OPC UA is listed as present, which allows direct data exchange without a separate gateway.
