Overview
The 6AG1217-1AG40-5XB0 is a Siemens SIPLUS CPU 1217C, a compact PLC processor from the S7-1200 family with conformal coating for extended environmental tolerance. It operates on a 24 V DC supply and carries 150 KB of program/data memory, two PROFINET ports, and a mixed onboard I/O set: 10 digital inputs, 4 RS-422/485 digital inputs, 6 digital outputs at 0.5 A, 4 RS-422/485 digital outputs, 2 analog inputs (0-10 V), and 2 analog outputs (0-20 mA).
Function & operation
This CPU executes the user program and coordinates I/O and communication modules on the S7-1200 backplane. The 150 KB memory is the figure that sizes the application — enough for medium machine logic with data handling and recipe management, but not for large multi-axis or data-intensive processes. The two PROFINET ports allow line or ring topology without an external switch, reducing component count in the cabinet. The onboard I/O covers mixed signal types: digital, RS-422/485 for encoder or serial device interface, analog voltage input, and analog current output. This integration saves a separate I/O module slot for applications that need a few channels of each type.
Applications
SIPLUS CPUs are specified for automation in harsh environments — cold storage, outdoor enclosures, food processing, and chemical plants where standard S7-1200 CPUs would risk condensation or corrosion. The conformal coating protects against moisture, dust, and aggressive atmospheres. Typical roles include conveyor control, packaging machine logic, and small process skids.
