What the temperature range and coating mean for your panel
The 6AG1221-3AD30-5XB0: This is the SIPLUS variant of the standard 6ES7221-3AD30-0XB0, with conformal coating and a -40 to +70 °C operating range — the standard industrial module tops out at 60 °C and lacks the coating. The conformal coating (IPC-CC-830A Class A) and resistance to coolants, lubricants, diesel, and oil droplets mean it survives in lift stations, washdown zones, and anywhere H2S or salt spray is present — the standard module won't hold up in those conditions.
Four high-speed inputs — what they actually do
Four digital inputs at 5 V DC, each drawing 15 mA typical at signal '1', rated for 200 kHz counting — these are high-speed counter inputs, not general-purpose 24 V discrete inputs. At 200 kHz per channel, this board handles encoder feedback, flowmeter pulses, or fast proximity sensor edges that a standard 24 V input module would miss entirely. Typical power loss is 1 W — negligible thermal load in a sealed enclosure, but worth noting if you're packing multiple signal boards into a confined panel.
Altitude derating and environmental resilience
Rated for installation up to 5000 m above sea level, with a derating curve: full temperature range up to 2000 m, then -10 K at 2000-3500 m, and -20 K at 3500-5000 m — relevant for mining and high-altitude processing plants. Meets ANSI/ISA-71.04 GX level for corrosive gases (excluding trichlorethylene), plus salt spray and oil exposure — this is the module you spec for the wet well, not the one that lives in a climate-controlled control room. Protection against fouling per EN 60664-3 Type 1 — the conformal coating maintains creepage distances in polluted atmospheres.
Sourcing and fit for the S7-1200 rack
Fits the S7-1200 signal board slot (38 mm wide, 62 mm tall, 21 mm deep) — same footprint as the standard SB 1221, so it swaps in without panel rework. No pin-compatible second-source exists for this SIPLUS variant — the standard 6ES7221-3AD30-0XB0 is the base module but lacks the coating and extended temperature range.
