SIPLUS 8-Relay Output for Extreme Environments
The Siemens 6AG1222-1XF32-2XB0 is an active-production SIPLUS digital output module delivering eight relay outputs rated at 2 A per channel for both resistive and inductive loads. Its -40 to 70 °C operating temperature range allows it to be mounted in unheated enclosures, cold warehouses, or hot machine cabinets without derating. The module switches AC loads from 5 to 250 V and DC loads from 5 to 30 V, covering the common coil and indicator voltages found in most industrial cabinets. Marine approval and IP20 protection make the module suitable for shipboard and coastal installations, provided it is mounted inside a suitable enclosure. Front-side diagnostics give per-channel status and alarm reporting, which speeds up fault finding when a field device stops responding.
Installation & Wiring Notes
The module occupies 45 mm of DIN-rail width and requires a front connector — order separately. External short-circuit protection must be provided. The relay coil draws 16.7 mA from the load voltage L+, and the backplane bus supplies 140 mA at 5 V DC. Overall power loss is typically 5 W. Isolation between channels is by relay, with 750 V AC for 1 minute between different circuits and 1 500 V AC between channels and the backplane bus. Unshielded cables can run up to 150 m, shielded up to 500 m.
Field Diagnostics & Mechanical Endurance
Each output channel provides status indication and the module can generate diagnostic alarms. Transition times from 0 to 1 and 1 to 0 are both capped at 10 ms, adequate for most discrete control signals. The relays are rated for 10 million mechanical cycles, but at rated load voltage the contact endurance drops to 100 000 cycles — factor that into life planning for frequently switched applications. Cold restart is tested down to -25 °C.
