The Siemens 6AG1223-1PL30-2XB0 is a 16-channel digital input / 16-channel relay output module from the SIPLUS extended-temperature range, rated for -40 to 70 °C ambient—critical for panels in cold storage, northern installations, or outdoor cabinets without climate control. Digital inputs accept 5 V DC at 1 mA for signal 0 and 15 V DC at 2.5 mA (typical 4 mA) for signal 1; switching time is 10 ms max in either direction. Relay outputs handle AC loads up to 250 V AC, 5 to 250 V AC, and lamp loads up to 30 W DC or 200 W AC. cULus, CE, and FM approvals are listed; diagnostic alarms and diagnostics function are built in. Front connector required—order separately.
Signal integrity and wiring notes
Shielded cable runs up to 500 m; unshielded drops to 150 m. If you're running inputs past a VFD panel, go shielded—it's noise till proven otherwise. No internal short-circuit protection is provided. Each output group needs an external fuse or breaker. Budget for that in the BOM. Relay outputs are not isolated per channel; groups of 4 share a common. Watch the grouping when laying out inductive loads—suppress coils externally if you want the relays to last. Power loss is 10 W typical. Ensure the backplane power budget accounts for that, especially in densely loaded racks.
