Thermocouple coverage — nine types plus GOST
The 6AG1231-5QD30-4XB0: Four analog inputs, each configurable for thermocouple types J, K, T, E, R, S, N, C, and TXK/XK(L) per GOST, plus a ±80 mV voltage range for direct millivolt signals. No resistance thermometer (RTD) support — this module is thermocouple-only, so a separate RTD input card is needed for Pt100 or Ni100 sensors on the same rack. The integrating measurement principle filters noise on the TC lines, which matters when the cold-junction compensation reference is inside a panel with switching power supplies.
Diagnostic depth and supply monitoring
Alarms, diagnostic alarm, wire-break detection, resistance monitoring, and supply voltage monitoring are all built in — the module flags a thermocouple open-circuit or a 24 VDC dip without polling the field side. Diagnostics can be read out programmatically, and the module reports status of the inputs — useful for a maintenance-oriented line where a failed TC should trigger a message, not a scrap part.
Power budget and ambient range
Draws 40 mA typical from the 24 VDC backplane, with a typical power loss of 1.5 W — the thermal load is low enough that adjacent modules in a dense S7-1200 rack stay within derating.
Approvals and physical fit
Carries CE, FM (Factory Mutual) for hazardous-location installations, and RCM (formerly C-TICK) for Australian EMC compliance — covers the common industrial regulatory jurisdictions. IP20 enclosure, 45 mm wide × 100 mm high × 75 mm deep, and requires a front connector (ordered separately) for field wiring — the connector carries the thermocouple extension wires and the 24 VDC supply.
