SIPLUS RS-232 module for harsh environments
The Siemens 6AG1241-1AH30-2XB0 is a SIPLUS variant of the S7-1200 CM 1241 RS-232 communications module, built on the standard 6ES7241-1AH30-0XB0 hardware with conformal coating and an extended temperature range of -40 to +70 °C.
Temperature range and coating
The conformal coating protects the PCB from condensation, corrosive gases, and dust — the defining upgrade over the standard S7-1200 CM 1241, which lacks this protection and is rated only to 0–60 °C. The -40 °C low end and +70 °C high end cover applications from cold storage to outdoor cabinets in direct sun, where standard modules would drift out of spec. Altitude derating applies: full temperature range at 0–2000 m, derate by 10 K up to 3500 m, and by 20 K up to 5000 m.
Panel fit and power budget
The module snaps onto the S7-1200 DIN-rail assembly, occupying 30 mm width — one slot in the CPU rack. Depth is 75 mm, height 100 mm, matching the standard S7-1200 form factor. Max current draw from the L5+ backplane bus is 220 mA for logic; total power dissipation is 1.1 W typical, well within the CPU's backplane budget for a four-slot configuration. Cable length is limited to 10 m for the RS-232 link — sufficient for cabinet-to-machine connections but not for long-distance runs (use RS-485 for those).
The standard sibling 6ES7241-1AH30-0XB0 is the base hardware; the SIPLUS variant adds conformal coating and extended temperature range. No pin-compatible alternative exists within the SIPLUS family — this is the only RS-232 SIPLUS module for S7-1200.
