Ruggedised RS-232 for the S7-1200 backplane
The 6AG1241-1AH30-4XB0 is the SIPLUS variant of the standard CM 1241 RS-232 communications module (6ES7241-1AH30-0XB0), built for extended ambient conditions. It adds conformal coating to the PCB and is qualified across -40 to +70 °C, compared to the standard part's 0 to +55 °C envelope. That temperature spread holds the unit on the grid in a turbine hall or a compressor shed where the HVAC cycles off overnight. Power dissipation is 1.1 W typ — well within the S7-1200 backplane budget, even with the adjacent modules pulling their share. The 220 mA max draw from the L5+ logic bus means no separate field supply is needed for the serial interface itself.
For a BOM line that needs the -40 to +70 °C range and conformal coating, this is the direct fit; the standard CM 1241 does not carry those ratings.
