PROFIBUS DP slave for S7-1200 in harsh environments
The 6AG1242-5DX30-2XE0 is a SIPLUS variant of the standard CM 1242-5, based on the 6GK7242-5DX30-0XE0, with conformal coating and an extended temperature range of -25 to +55 °C for horizontal mounting. It connects an S7-1200 CPU to a PROFIBUS network as a DP slave, supporting both DPV0 and DPV1 profiles — so it handles cyclic data exchange and acyclic parameter/configuration data from a Class 2 master.
The conformal coating and compliance with EN 60721-3-3 class 3S4 (including sand and dust) and class 6S3 mean this module is built for environments where airborne particulates, diesel mist, and cooling lubricants are present — not just a standard IP20 office-PLC module. It draws 0.15 A typical from the 5 VDC backplane bus, dissipating 0.75 W — well within the S7-1200 power budget, even with three such modules per CPU. The 9-pin Sub-D RS485 interface is the standard PROFIBUS connector; the supplied plug covers must remain over unused interfaces during operation to maintain the environmental seal.
Panel fit and mounting constraints
Single-width compact module, 30 mm wide, 100 mm high, 75 mm deep — snaps onto a 35 mm top-hat DIN rail or can be wall-mounted. Requires STEP 7 Basic V11.0 or higher for configuration; no Industrial Ethernet interface on this module — it is PROFIBUS-only.
