Communications processor for SCADA telecontrol via GSM/GPRS
The Siemens 6AG1242-7KX30-4XE0 adds GSM/GPRS cellular connectivity for SCADA telecontrol via an OPC interface. It supports SMS and GPRS data with downlink up to 86 kbit/s and uplink up to 43 kbit/s, plus NTP time synchronization and encrypted data transmission. No LTE or UMTS radios are present, so this module is for legacy 2G networks or greenfield sites where GSM/GPRS meets telemetry bandwidth needs. If your SCADA network requires LTE, this is not the module for that path.
Supply, power, and physical fit
The module draws 2.4 W from a 24 V external supply via a 3-pole terminal block. It is a single-width compact module (30 mm wide) for the S7-1200 rail, IP20 rated, and can also be wall-mounted. One standard SIM card slot is provided. An SMA antenna connector (50 ohms) is on the module face. Up to three of these modules can be installed per S7-1200 CPU. Programming requires STEP 7 Basic/Professional V11 or higher with the corresponding HSP in TIA Portal.
