What the extended temperature range means for your cabinet
The 6AG1312-5BF04-7AB0 is the SIPLUS variant of the standard S7-300 CPU 312C, rated for an ambient operating range of -40 °C to 70 °C. That covers unheated enclosures, freezer lines, or roof-top cabinets where a standard 0–60 °C CPU would trip on cold-start or overheat in summer solar load. It carries 64 digital inputs and 64 digital outputs onboard — enough for a small machine cell or a conveyor zone without an expansion rack. The FM 8 rating means it executes 8 function blocks in the firmware, covering basic motion or counting tasks without an extra FM module.
Programming and integration into an existing S7-300 rack
This CPU programs in LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, GRAPH, and HiGraph — the full STEP 7 toolchain. It requires STEP 7 V5.5 + SP1 or higher, or V5.3 + SP2 with HSP 203. That means it slots into an existing TIA Portal V13 or earlier engineering station without a firmware update on the CPU. It mounts on a standard S7-300 DIN rail and uses the same backplane bus as any 312-series CPU. The 80 mm width and 125 mm height fit the same rack footprint as the standard 6ES7312-5BF04-0AB0 — no panel rework needed for a swap. PROFIsafe is not supported on this CPU, so separate safety PLC or F-CPU is required if the application needs SIL-rated safe communication over the backplane.
