What it is and what it does
The 6AG1315-2EH13-2AB0 is a S7-300 CPU from the 6AG series, carrying an FM 8 designation. That FM 8 identifies the firmware version or function module level, which matters for software compatibility with Siemens STEP 7 V5.4 SP2 or higher. It supports CFC, FBD, LAD, SCL, STL, GRAPH, and HiGraph® — covering essentially every Siemens PLC programming language. That gives the integrator flexibility in writing control logic without worrying about language lock-in. The I2t rating of 1 A²·s defines the CPU’s short-circuit withstand; site engineers use that for selectivity coordination with the upstream breaker. Integrated PROFINET interface handles TCP/IP and UDP communication, and can act as IO controller or device. No MPI support; legacy PROFIBUS networks require a separate CP module.
