Extended-temperature RS-422/485 comms for S7-300
The 6AG1340-1CH02-2AE0: It provides one isolated RS-422/485 interface (X.27) with transmission rates from 2.4 kbit/s up to 19.2 kbit/s, supporting ASCII, 3964(R), and printer driver protocols. Power is drawn from the S7-300 backplane bus at 5 V DC (max. 165 mA), with no separate 24 V DC supply needed — the module consumes 0.6 W typical, 0.85 W max.
The conformal coating and -40 to 70 °C range suit installations in cold storage, outdoor cabinets, or areas with condensation risk. The module also meets ANSI/ISA-71.04 GX (corrosive gas) and salt-spray (LC3) levels. Approvals include CE, UL (File E239877), KC, EAC, and RCM — covering North American, European, and Asian regulatory jurisdictions.
Protocol support and cable reach
The RS-422/485 interface supports cable runs up to 1,200 m at 19.2 kbit/s with the 3964(R) protocol, or up to 9.6 kbit/s with ASCII and printer protocols. The 15-pin sub-D socket (female) provides the physical connection. The FB length in RAM is 2,700 bytes for data communication send/receive buffers. Supported printers include HP-Deskjet, HP-Laserjet, IBM-Proprinter, and user-defined types — useful for direct report printing from the PLC without a PC intermediary.
