SIPLUS S7-400 PS 405: what the extended range means for your cabinet
The 6AG1405-0KA02-7AA0 is the SIPLUS variant of the standard S7-400 PS 405 power supply (6ES7405-0KA02-0AA0), factory-fitted with conformal coating and qualified for an ambient temperature span of -25 °C to +70 °C. That 95 K window covers unheated enclosures, outdoor-adjacent cabinets, and process areas where the standard 0…60 °C part would drift outside its guaranteed operating range.
Output rails and backplane loading
The primary backplane bus delivers 10 A at 5 V DC, derated to 7 A above 60 °C — no base load required. Separate 24 V DC, 48 V DC, and 60 V DC input rails supply 4 A, 2 A, and 1.6 A respectively, each with short-circuit protection. The 5 V backplane current is the figure that governs how many S7-400 modules one supply can feed; the 24 V rail handles field-side loads like digital input modules or small relays. Typical power loss is 20 W, active power input 95 W. The inrush current peaks at 18 A for 20 ms — within the rating of a standard C-curve MCB on the primary side.
Conformal coating and environmental qualification
The conformal coating per IPC-CC-830A Class A protects against condensation, conductive dust, and corrosive gas exposure up to EN 60721-3-3 class 3C4 levels. The unit also carries ANSI/ISA-71.04 GX group A/B qualification (excluding trichlorethylene) and salt-spray / oil resistance at levels LC3 and LB3. This is the variant to specify when the cabinet shares a floor with chemical processing, wastewater, or coastal installations. Installation altitude reaches 5 000 m with derated temperature — above 2 000 m the max ambient drops 10 K per 1 500 m increment. Overvoltage category II, equipment protection class I with protective conductor.
