CPU for harsh environments – the SIPLUS difference
The 6AG1511-1AL03-2AB0 is a Siemens SIPLUS S7-1500 CPU that keeps running from -40 °C to 70 °C, unlike the standard 0 °C to 60 °C range of its 6ES7511-1AL03-0AB0 counterpart. That extended thermal envelope plus conformal coating makes it the pick for cold chain, outdoor cabinets, or unventilated enclosures. Inside the same 35 mm wide DIN-rail package you get an integrated hardware clock, dual PID controllers (one for temperature, one for valves with auto-tuning), and a full industrial Ethernet stack: PROFINET IRT with MRP automanager, MRPD, Modbus TCP, and UDP/TCP. The process image handles 32 kbyte each for inputs and outputs, enough for medium-scale distributed IO.
Putting the numbers to work
Width 35 mm, height 147 mm, depth 129 mm – identical footprint to the standard CPU. No panel rework if you swap from a 6ES7511-1AL03-0AB0; the SIPLUS variant drops into the same DIN-rail slot and uses the same 24 VDC supply. The I2t rating of 0.5 A²·s matters for fuse coordination upstream: this is the energy the CPU draws during a short on its internal bus. Sizing the 24 VDC supply breaker with that figure plus the connected IO module peaks will keep selectivity. Up to four communication modules (PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Ethernet) can be inserted on the left side of the CPU. If you need more than one fieldbus gateway, plan the layout accordingly.
