CPU fit for harsh environments and redundant rings
The Siemens 6AG1513-1AL02-2AB0 is a standard S7-1500 CPU rated for an ambient range of -40 to 70 °C, which covers unheated enclosures and outdoor cabinets without derating. Its process image handles 32 kbyte of inputs and 32 kbyte of outputs, enough for medium-scale discrete or process applications. Media redundancy is built in: MRP operates as a redundancy manager or client in rings up to 50 devices, and MRPD with IRT provides planned duplication for time-synchronized drops. This makes the CPU a natural choice for PROFINET topologies where failover and deterministic update times are required.
Communication and programming capabilities
The CPU supports MODBUS TCP natively, plus a web server with standard and user pages over HTTP or HTTPS. It accepts up to six communication modules (PROFINET + PROFIBUS) for fieldbus expansion. Programming languages include LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, and GRAPH; the integrated PID controller handles temperature loops and valve control with onboard optimization. All inputs and outputs reside in the process image (32 kbyte each). I&M data from I&M0 to I&M3 eases asset identification. The hardware clock, SNMP, and LLDP are functional out of the box. DCP is supported; DHCP is not.
