Integration brief — what this CPU brings to a harsh-environment S7-1500 rack
The 6AG1516-3AN01-7AB0: On the communication side, it supports MRP as a redundancy manager for ring topologies with up to 50 devices, plus MODBUS TCP and RS485 for legacy fieldbus bridging. The process image is 32 kbytes for inputs and 32 kbytes for outputs — adequate for mid-size distributed I/O. Note that while MRPD is listed, it requires IRT, and this CPU does not support IRT. If you need isochronous real-time for motion drives, the standard 6ES7516-3AN00-0AB0 (non-SIPLUS) is the correct fit.
How it compares with the standard-temperature sibling (6ES7516-3AN00-0AB0)
Operating temperature range is -40 to 70 °C. IRT is not supported, so MRPD is unavailable.
Mounting and panel fit — DIN-rail checklist
Width is 105 mm — the standard S7-1500 CPU slot. Height 147 mm, depth 129 mm. Clears a standard 600 mm deep enclosure with room for front cable glands. At temperatures below 0 °C, the display may be slow to refresh and contrast reduced, but the CPU logic continues normally — plan for remote diagnostics or avoid relying on the panel HMI in cold start conditions. Supports up to 8 communication modules/CPs (PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Ethernet) in total. Available protocols include HTTP and HTTPS for web server pages, SNMP for network monitoring, and LLDP for topology discovery. The integrated RS485 port is available via the front connector.
