Sourcing brief — what this CPU brings to a BOM line
The 6AG1517-3HP00-4AB0 is a Siemens SIPLUS S7-1500 CPU rated for ambient conditions from -40 °C to 70 °C, which puts it in the extended-temperature bracket for environments like outdoor cabinets, cold storage, or washdown zones. It handles 32 kbyte each of process input and output image, supports MRP in Manager role for up to 50 nodes, and can be programmed in LAD, FBD, SCL, and STL — but not in GRAPH or CFC. MODBUS TCP is on board; PROFIsafe and IRT are not.
MRP Manager role — what it means for ring redundancy
This CPU is configured as MRP Manager permanently in TIA Portal; no other node in the ring needs to act as manager. Maximum 50 nodes in the ring. If your line requires deterministic failover on a PROFINET ring, this CPU handles that without an external redundancy module. Note that MRPD (media redundancy for planned duplication) is not supported — the recovery mode is only MRP.
Programming language fit — what is and isn't available
The CPU accepts LAD, FBD, SCL, and STL. No CFC, GRAPH, PID-Temp, or blocks listed. If your application relies on continuous function charts or sequential function charts, this isn't the CPU for it. S7 routing is also not supported, so keep that in mind for multi-CPU project layouts.
Communication ports and protocols
Integrated PROFINET interface with two ports (100 Mbps). Supports TCP/IP, UDP, MODBUS TCP, LLDP, SNMP, and DCP. No DHCP, HTTP, HTTPS, or IRT. MRP (Manager) is the only redundancy protocol. The hardware clock is present. S7 routing is off.
Mounting and form factor
Width 210 mm, height 147 mm, depth 129 mm — standard S7-1500 profile. Mounts on a DIN rail or directly with a profile rail kit. No backplane power budget concerns; the CPU draws from the system power supply via the U-connector.
