Fieldbus and controller compatibility
The 6AG1642-0BC01-4AX1: This HMI panel communicates exclusively over PROFIBUS DP — there is no Ethernet or PROFINET port onboard, so the control network must be a PROFIBUS segment with a DP master. MPI is supported for multi-point programming access, allowing direct connection to S7-300/400 CPUs without an additional bus coupler. Compatibility extends to S7-200 controllers, making this panel a candidate for mixed-generation Siemens lines where a single HMI must talk to both legacy and current PLC families.
Operating limits and physical constraints
Rated for -20 °C to 60 °C ambient — the lower end suits unheated storage or cold-start conditions, but the 60 °C ceiling means the panel must be placed away from heat sources inside the enclosure. Rear protection is IP20 — this is a panel-mount unit for a clean, dry electrical cabinet; no washdown or outdoor rating applies. The hardware clock is synchronizable over the network but has no battery backup — time is retained only while powered; after a power loss the clock resets at boot and must be re-synchronized from the PLC or NTP source.
HMI functionality and operator interface
Supports 500 icons in the graphics library, trend data logging, limit value monitoring, and a color-change function for alarm or status indication on screen elements. System keys provide direct navigation without relying on touch — useful in gloved or dirty environments where a touchscreen would be impractical. The clean screen function blanks the display temporarily for wiping without triggering unintended touches, and the integrated help system gives on-device diagnostics without a separate manual. Sm@rtServer enables web-based remote access to the panel for monitoring or troubleshooting from a browser on the same network.
