PROFINET HMI with multi-protocol Ethernet
The Siemens 6AG1647-0AA11-2AX0 is a SIMATIC HMI panel with a native PROFINET interface and support for DCP (Discovery and Configuration Protocol), DHCP, LLDP, and SNMP for network integration. It also runs MODBUS TCP/IP and EtherNet/IP stacks, so it can talk to a Rockwell PLC or a Modicon controller on the same wire without a gateway.
Protocol support and integration notes
This HMI does not have a USB host port, so firmware updates or recipe transfers must go over Ethernet. It also lacks MPI and PROFIBUS — if your existing network is DP-based, you'll need a gateway or a different panel. S7-300/400 controllers are supported natively over PROFINET; S7-200 requires a CP module. The unit includes onboard flash memory for project storage and a task planner for scheduled screen changes or data logging. Simulation mode is available for offline testing of HMI logic before deployment. For the controls integrator: this panel can serve as a multi-vendor HMI on a mixed network. The Ethernet port handles PROFINET IO, MODBUS TCP, and EtherNet/IP concurrently — no protocol switching required. Just assign the IP via DCP or DHCP and point it at the controller tag table.
