What this HMI brings to the panel
The Siemens 6AG1688-3ED13-4AX0 is a SIPLUS HMI with 32 function keys and a membrane keyboard, built for environments where you need operator input and machine feedback in one sealed package. The front carries an IP65 rating, so it handles washdown and dust on the panel face, while the rear is IP20 for enclosure protection. Power is 24 VDC, drawing a typical 10 W active. Communication runs over MPI and PROFIBUS via a single RS-485 interface at up to 12 Mbit/s. There is no MODBUS, TCP/IP, or PROFIsafe onboard — this unit speaks Siemens fieldbus natively. The 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs are grouped in fours, each group sourcing up to 500 mA total, with 100 mA per channel max on both resistive and inductive loads. Short-circuit protection is built in.
The IP65 front means this HMI can be panel-mounted in a washdown zone — food, beverage, or chemical processing — without a separate enclosure door. The IP20 rear keeps internal bus and power connections inside the cabinet. The vertical-only mounting orientation is fixed; plan your cutout accordingly. The 1x RS-485 interface at 12 Mbit/s connects directly to a PROFIBUS or MPI network; no gateway needed for Siemens controllers.
