DNP3 and Modbus RTU on a single TIM
The Siemens 6AG1803-4BA00-7AA0 is a Telecontrol Interface Module (TIM) that brings both DNP3 and Modbus RTU protocol support to S7-300 and S7-400 racks, letting a single module bridge between a SCADA master speaking DNP3 and field devices on a Modbus RTU bus. It occupies a double-width slot in the S7-300 form factor and draws a typical 100 µA from the backplane, with a separate 20.4 to 28.8 VDC supply on a 2-pole pluggable terminal block that powers the communication interfaces.
Protocol handling and connectivity limits
The module supports a maximum of 1 Modbus RTU slave and 5 simultaneous LAN connections, with one RS-232 interface running 9600 to 115200 bit/s and one RS-485 interface reaching up to 30 m. On the Ethernet side it handles up to 8 connections at 10/100 Mbit/s via an RJ45 port, with a maximum of 2 PG and 1 OP connection for engineering access. The TIM also accepts time synchronisation from an NTP server and includes a hardware real-time clock backed by a lithium AA battery (3.6 V, 2.3 Ah) to maintain time across power cycles.
The module measures 80 mm wide by 125 mm high by 120 mm deep and is rated IP20, so it mounts inside a clean, dry control cabinet without washdown exposure.
