The Siemens 6AG1972-0BB12-2XA0 is a SIPLUS DP PROFIBUS plug built on the standard 6ES7972-0BB12-0XA0 but with conformal coating and a wider operating range. It connects a PROFIBUS station to the network cable at speeds up to 12 Mbps, using a 90° cable outlet and a screwed-joint locking mechanism.
Environmental ratings—what they mean for installation
Rated for operation from -40°C to +70°C, with storage and transport from -40°C to +70°C as well. That covers most industrial freezing or high-temp zones without derating. Relative humidity up to 100% including condensation and frost is permitted, but the note explicitly prohibits commissioning while the unit is bedewed—allow a dry-off period before powering up the bus. The conformal coating on the PCB protects against moisture, dust, and chemical vapors, which is the main reason to pick the SIPLUS over the standard plug for panel environments with high humidity or washdown.
This plug uses a screwed-joint locking mechanism (not bayonet or snap-in) and includes a terminating resistor with isolating function. It also has a PG socket for diagnostic or programming access. Because it is a direct functional equivalent of the standard 6ES7972-0BB12-0XA0 with added coating, it drops into the same panel cutout and wiring plan—no design changes required.
