The Siemens 6DR5010-.....-.... is a SIPART PS2 smart electropneumatic positioner — the workhorse for pneumatic valve actuation in process lines. It accepts a 4-20 mA control signal and drives single-acting actuators, linear or part-turn, with non-contacting (wear-free) position feedback via NCS. The polycarbonate enclosure suits it for general-purpose and Ex/nEx zones. The non-contacting position sensing is the key reliability feature here: no wiper track to wear, no mechanical linkage to drift. That means the feedback stays consistent over the valve stroke life, and you don't get the creeping offset that signals a pot replacement is due. For a positioner that's expected to run years between calibrations, that's the difference between a scheduled trim and an unplanned loop upset.
Sourcing and lifecycle
RoHS compliance is confirmed effective 31 December 2016, with a REACH Article 33 declaration for lead (CAS 7439-92-1) above the 0.1% threshold. Export controls are AL: N / ECCN: N, so no special licensing for standard destinations.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 4-20 mA input is the standard analog loop for process control — it will pair directly with any DCS or PLC analog output card without a converter. Single-acting means it drives spring-return actuators (air-to-open or air-to-open with spring-close); for double-acting actuators you need the dual-acting variant in the same family. The polycarbonate enclosure is lighter than aluminum but less impact-resistant; it's fine for indoor or sheltered outdoor mounting. If the installation is in a high-traffic area where a hammer or ladder might contact the housing, consider the metal-enclosed version from the same SIPART PS2 family. The Ex/nEx marking covers both hazardous-area and safe-area installations in one order code — you don't need to specify a separate Ex variant. The non-contacting sensor is intrinsically safe by design, which simplifies the loop certification paperwork.
