The Siemens 6DR5616-.....-.... is a SIPART PS2 smart electropneumatic positioner with FOUNDATION Fieldbus communication, rated for Ex/nEx environments. It is single-acting, housed in a stainless steel flameproof (Ex d) enclosure, and designed for pneumatic linear and part-turn actuators.
This class of positioner is used in process valve control loops — throttling a control valve on a steam line, positioning a butterfly valve on a chemical feed, or stroking a linear actuator on a compressor recycle loop. The FOUNDATION Fieldbus variant fits into a distributed control system (DCS) that speaks FF H1, common in refineries, power plants, and pharmaceutical batch processes.
