What the I/O count means for your control scheme
The 6ED1052-1MD00-0BA6 gives you 8 digital inputs, of which 4 can be configured as analog inputs (0 to 10 V). That means one module handles mixed-signal sensing — limit switches, pushbuttons, and a couple of 0-10 V transducers — without an extra analog expansion block. The 4 relay outputs are rated 10 A resistive and 3 A inductive. For a small machine or conveyor section, that's enough to drive contactors, small motors, or indicator loads directly. The inductive rating matters when switching solenoid valves or relay coils — budget the inrush.
Power supply and fusing — what the spec sheet doesn't flag
Supply range is 10.8 to 28.8 V DC — a 24 V nominal rail with 10% headroom on both sides. The module itself has no built-in short-circuit protection on the I/O; the spec explicitly calls for external fusing. A 2 A fast-blow per input group is typical, but check your loop draw. The 80-hour power reserve keeps the program and retentive data alive during a supply dropout — no battery to replace.
Approvals and environmental limits
Carries CE, UL, CSA, and FM approvals plus marine certification. That covers most industrial and commercial installations in North America and Europe, including shipboard applications. Rated IP20 — install in an enclosure with a door. Ambient operating range is 0 to 55 °C. The 55 °C ceiling is the internal temperature rise limit with all outputs loaded — above that, derate the relay current or add forced ventilation.
