40 A buffer module for PSU8600-backed DC bus ride-through
The Siemens 6EP4295-8HB00-0XY0 is the SITOP BUF8600 buffer module, rated at 40 A, designed to bridge mains dips on a 24 V DC bus fed by the PSU8600 power supply system. It stores energy in double-layer capacitors and signals its state via a 3-color LED — green for buffer standby, yellow during buffered mode. The module communicates status over Ethernet/PROFINET through the PSU8600 interface, so a PLC can log ride-through events or trigger a controlled shutdown before the bus drops.
DIN rail fit and panel clearance
Clearance requirements are 50 mm above and below the module for natural convection cooling — stack another unit tighter and the top unit starves for airflow. IP20 rated, so it lives inside a cabinet, not on the wet side of the gland plate. The plug-in screw terminals accept 0.2 to 1.5 mm² for the control and signal connections.
Approvals and environmental envelope
Carries cULus listing to UL 508 and CSA C22.2 No. 107.1, plus cCSAus to 60950-1 — accepted for US and Canadian panel builds without a separate evaluation. Shipbuilding approvals from DNV GL and ABS are on file, which matters for marine and offshore skids where the classification society demands traceable component certification. Climatic class 3K3 per IEC 60721 covers 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity, typical for unheated electrical rooms. EMC emissions meet EN 55022 Class B, so it can go into a residential or light-industrial environment without an external filter.
MTBF and operating range
MTBF at 40 °C is 1,190,747 hours — call it 136 years of continuous running before a statistical failure. That number assumes the 25 °C reference condition for the specs; real life at 50 °C ambient in a crowded cabinet will shorten it, but the double-layer capacitors are rated for the full temperature range.
