PROFIBUS DP slice for 16-channel digital sensing
The Siemens 6ES7131-1BH01-0XB0 is an ET 200S digital input module with 16 channels, each accepting 24 V DC signals from 2-wire sensors or standard 3-wire proximity switches. It communicates over PROFIBUS DP at up to 1.5 Mbit/s, making it a direct-fit slice for existing ET 200S stations in process or factory lines. Rated IP20, it sits inside a cabinet, not on the machine face. Input filtering is fixed: signal transitions take 2–4.5 ms (both rising and falling), so this module suits applications where a few milliseconds of debounce are acceptable — think pushbuttons, limit switches, or proximity sensors on conveyor zones. For encoder counting or fast cam signals, you would want a higher-speed input slice. Power draw is modest — 2.2 W typical from the backplane, with a max 70 mA from the L+ supply. The module includes reverse-polarity protection and galvanic isolation between channels and the PROFIBUS DP bus, tested at 500 V DC. That isolation simplifies wiring in mixed-voltage panels.
Mounting and environment notes
Physical footprint: 145 mm wide, 60 mm high, 60.5 mm deep. It uses the ET 200S terminal block TB 16L, which is ordered separately. Operating temperature range is 0–60 °C horizontally mounted; derate to 40 °C for other orientations. Humidity tolerance is 5–95 % RH (class 2 per IEC 1131-2). Altitude range is 795–1080 hPa.
Input characteristics and diagnostics
Signal thresholds: logic '0' is –30 to +5 V, logic '1' is 13–30 V. Typical input current at '1' is 5 mA. The module supports 2-wire sensors (no external power needed for the sensor loop). It also offers FREEZE capability (snapshot inputs on a bus command) and diagnostic functions including a bus fault LED (red) and per-channel green status indicators. Maximum cable length: 1000 m shielded, 600 m unshielded. Power-failure hold-up time is 20 ms, enough to ride through brief dips without losing input state.
