The Siemens 6ES7131-7RF00-0AB0 is an ET200iSP electronic module providing 8 intrinsically safe NAMUR digital inputs for hazardous area applications, certified Ex ib (ia Ga) IIC T4 Gb and Ex ib [ia IIIC Da] IIC T4 Gb for gas and dust zones. Each channel can count at up to 5 kHz with a 20 m cable; drop to 1 kHz at 100 m and 500 Hz at 200 m — keep this in mind for encoder runs longer than a couple meters. Diagnostics include parameterizable alarms and a group error LED, with wire-break and short-circuit detection built in for NAMUR sensors.
Specs that matter for the BOM
Shielded cable max 500 m per channel; unshielded is shorter, but the datasheet doesn't give a number — treat 500 m as the hard ceiling with shielded twisted pair. Counting modes: normal and periodic count function, plus frequency measurement with gate times 50 ms, 200 ms, or 1 s — enough for flow or speed inputs.
Isolation and power
500 V DC isolation between channels and backplane bus, and 60 V DC / 30 V AC between different circuits — safe for mixed-voltage panels. Typical current draw 80 mA, maximum 90 mA from the supply L+ — light on the backplane power budget.
