What the ratings mean for fit
The 6ES7132-6BD20-0BA0: Per-channel current is 0.5 A, but the module's total current is thermally limited: 8 A up to 30 °C, 6 A up to 40 °C, 4 A up to 50 °C, and 4 A up to 60 °C. That means at 40 °C ambient you can't run all eight channels at 0.5 A simultaneously — you'd hit 6 A total. Plan your load distribution accordingly, especially in a crowded panel. Switching times are 50 µs typical for turn-on, 100 µs typical for turn-off — fast enough for most valve banks and indicator arrays, but not for high-speed PWM or isochronous motion (MSO and PWM are both No, isochronous mode is No). Module-wide diagnostics cover short-circuit and wire-break, plus a diagnostic alarm and group error. That saves troubleshooting time on the line — the CPU knows which module faulted, not just which rack.
Mounting and wiring
Width is 15 mm — one of the narrowest in the ET 200SP family. Depth is 58 mm, height 73 mm. It snaps onto a BU type A0 base unit; that base unit handles 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-wire connections. For 3-wire you need a base unit with AUX terminals or a separate potential distributor module; 4-wire adds a potential distributor module. Plan the base unit order alongside the module. Cable lengths: unshielded up to 600 m, shielded up to 1000 m. For most factory-floor runs that's plenty of headroom.
Sourcing and compliance
Lifecycle status is current — no end-of-life notice, no last-time-buy pressure. Firmware is V1.1 and field-updatable, so you can standardize on this revision across the plant. Power draw is 1 W typical, negligible for backplane budgeting.
