The Siemens 6ES7138-4DG00-0AB0 is an ET 200SP module that reads incremental encoders with symmetrical RS-422 signals. It packs 3 digital inputs and 3 digital outputs, handles encoder frequencies up to 500 kHz, and captures a zero-index pulse with a latch time of 400 µs typical. Input threshold: +11 to +30 V is logic 1, below +3 V is logic 0, with at least 1 V differential swing. Outputs include short-circuit and reverse polarity protection, so a miswire won’t kill the module.
Response times & switching
Input delay from 0 to 1: max 1.3 ms, typical 150 µs; 1 to 0: max 200 µs, typical 150 µs. Minimum 0-to-1 transition is 500 µs. Output switching: resistive load up to 100 Hz, inductive load up to 2 Hz, lamp load up to 10 Hz. The response threshold for current is 0.7 to 1.8 A — useful if you’re monitoring output health.
